Glee: Like Monkey Bread for your brain
I know I’m a season behind, but bear with me. OH MY FRIGGING GOD I LOVE GLEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!
Sorry, outburst.
This weekend, mom, Jonathan, Emily and I sat down to watch the episodes of Glee that were languishing on the DVR. I knew I wanted to watch the show, despite having missed the whole first season, but Brian had ZERO interest in watching so I hadn’t seen it yet. With critical mass in place, we were able to stage a coup of the TV room and watch 2 of the 4 episodes.
We stayed up until 11:00 watching them on the DVR and crying real, salty tears when stupid American idol ran stupid over and we missed the last stupid 4 minutes. Then I ran and got my laptop and we watched the end of the show on hulu.com. Because it was the MADONNA episode, that’s why.
Sunday night, they had a family meeting without me (while I was putting Abby to bed) so we could get right down to the Glee-watchin’. We watched the second 2 episodes and then found ourselves on hulu and youtube again looking for videos of Kristen Chenowith being awesome, because she is.
I think it’s a sickness.
I actually got to see last night’s episode close to live. Mom and I were working so we started about 15 minutes late which allowed us to fast forward all the commercials. (Wow, we do consumer market research and we skipped the commercials? Something seems off about that.) And holy shit in a dixie cup, but Neil Patrick Harris is going to be on next week’s show!! Aaaaaaaaahhhhhhhh!!! (That was a happy sound for those of you still reading.)
We’ve decided that Glee is full-on addictive. As Jonathan said, it’s like monkey bread for your brain. Because everyone knows that monkey bread is made with sunshine and rainbows and just a little bit of heroin.
So do you watch Glee? Why or why not? What show can’t you live without? Tell me in the comments.

Yyyyyyyyyyyeeeeeeeeeees! Glee is the only show I regurlarly watch when it’s actually on tv (pretty much everything else is viewed on hulu–luckily, I have a program that allows me to watch hulu on my actual tv through the PS3). It’s so hard to pick a favorite episode or song! My favorite guest so far has been Kristen Chenowith, hands down, but NPH might edge her out next week. As much as I’ve loved all the music since, I have to say the “Don’t Stop Believin’” from the pilot is probably my fave… that and anything Kurt sings… and the duet of “Maybe This Time” between April and Rachel.
When the hell is Idina Menzel going to be back on and SING something, for crying out loud?
Oh, and seriously, where are Rachel’s gay dads already? I mean, Finn took her to the freaking doctor. Please. Gay dads are better than that.
I love Glee! I started watching from its premiere… I was curious about some of the Flipcam footage that the cast had uploaded to Youtube, and I became a Gleek once I realized it was an American Idol/High School Musical mashup. I love playing the songs they cover on my iPod.
By the way, this is still Season 1, so you weren’t far behind. The show had to take a brief hiatus to film more episodes, and they lined up Joss Whedon & some more guest stars!
My favorite episode to date has to be “Sectionals,” because it was wall-to-wall singing and Kristen Chenowith. I love how they’re tying back the new shows to that episode. “Glee” and “Dancing with the Stars” are the two shows I watch every week. What’s your favorite song they’ve done so far?

I have to say I’m a huge fan of the guys doing that soulful rendition of “What it Feels Like for a Girl” in the Madonna episode. I’m thinking I *need* to go grab those albums to load up my iPod before my flight to Europe later this week!
