Lady Gaga to the rescue
Some days are just too grown-up. Like when you’re working hard on a project, juggling 50,000 volunteer things, and finding out that your educational plans for your child aren’t going to work out. And it’s just after lunchtime. That’s been my day and I was feeling entirely too adult. No, that’s not right. I was [...]
Disney Challenge Update – results may vary
So in an effort to kick-start my metabolism into any gear besides “molasses” in time for our blow-Abby’s-head-off trip to Walt Disney World, I’ve been keeping a food journal and trying my best to exercise 3-4 times a week, minimum. And for the past 2 weeks, I’ve been pretty successful.
Book review: A Season’s End
I own a signed, first edition copy of exactly one book. You have three guesses as to which book that would be. OK, stop guessing. The book is A Season’s End and it was written by my wonderful, amazing, awesome friend Chaka Heinze. This book is her first novel and it is really, really good. [...]
My own Disney challenge
So in obsessively reading and re-reading the Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World, I came across the interesting factoid, that due to the size and design of the various Disney parks, one should be comfortable walking about 5-6 miles PER DAY without feeling as though one was going to fall into a potato-chip scented heap. Insert disgruntled grumbling here
I woke up this morning to see more of this: And this. And this! “But Missy,” I hear you say. “You live in New York. It snows there.” Yes, my observant friends, it does snow in New York. Just not usually on a Tuesday. OK, maybe it sometimes snows midweek, but this time there had [...]
What a month I had today
In the span of 20 minutes I: Realized I hadn’t updated the date on a letter to the principal of the local Catholic elementary school. Reprinted the letter, signed it, and wound my way through 1,000 furnace installation guys to get an envelope. Addressed the envelope, added a stamp, and ran out to catch the [...]
How to have a perfectly lovely snow day
Start out by learning that school will be closed the night before, so you don’t have to get up and listen to the radio for school closings. Sleep in a little. In fact, if you can avoid waking up until everyone else in the house has already had breakfast, that would be even better. Give your husband [...]
In other news
Hello there. It’s been a rather long time since I posted anything. Let’s see, here we are on – holy shit how did it get to be JANUARY 10?!?! That’s like, practically halfway through the first month of 2011. Honestly, this kind of supersonic sped-up-time thing has to stop. Otherwise I will be reduced to [...]
We need a little Christmas – traditions edition
This has been fun! All the songs and TV shows and movies and sparkly lights! I love Christmas! (And I plan to watch A Christmas Story tomorrow one of the 24 times it’s on, I promise.) Since this is probably one of my last posts of the year, let’s talk traditions. You may have picked [...]
